Noise reduction by paired-microphones using spectral subtraction

چکیده
This paper proposes a method of noise reduction by pairedmicrophones as a front-end processor for speech recognition systems. This method estimates noises using a subtractive microphone array and subtracts them from the noisy speech signal using the Spectral Subtraction (SS). Since this method can estimate noises analytically and frame by frame, it is easy to estimate noises not depending on these acoustic properties. Therefore, this method can also reduce non stationary noises, for example sudden noises when a door has just closed, which can not be reduced by other SS methods. The results of computer simulations and experiments in a real environment show that this method can reduce LPC log spectral envelope distortions.

Template-based spectral estimation using microphone array for speech recognition
This paper proposes a Template-based Spectral Estimation (TSE) method for noise reduction of microphone array processing aiming at speech recognition enhancement. In the proposed method, a noise template in a complex plane is calculated for each frequency bin using non-speech audio signals observed at microphones. Then for every noise-overlapped speech signals, a speech signal can be reformed b...

A wide variety of microphone arrays have been developed, and the authors have also proposed a type of equally-spaced small-scale microphone array. In this approach, a paired-microphone is selected at each frequency to design a subtractive beamformer that can estimate a noise spectrum. This paper introduces a nonequally-spaced microphone arrangement, which might give more spatial information tha...
متن کاملDereverberation and denoising based on generalized spectral subtraction by multi-channel LMS algorithm using a small-scale microphone array
A blind dereverberation method based on power spectral subtraction (SS) using a multi-channel least mean squares algorithm was previously proposed to suppress the reverberant speech without additive noise. The results of isolated word speech recognition experiments showed that this method achieved significant improvements over conventional cepstral mean normalization (CMN) in a reverberant envi...
متن کاملDouble the trouble: handling noise and reverberation in far-field automatic speech recognition
Far-field microphone speech signals cause high error rates for automatic speech recognition systems, due to room reverberation and lower signal-to-noise ratios. We have observed large increases in speech recognition word error rates when using a far-field (3-6 feet) microphone in a conference room, in comparison with recordings from close-talking microphones. In an earlier paper, we showed impr...
متن کاملSpeech Enhancement by Multichannel Crosstalk Resistant ANC and Improved Spectrum Subtraction
A scheme combining multichannel crosstalk resistant adaptive noise cancellation (MCRANC) algorithm and improved spectrum subtraction (ISS) algorithm is presented to enhance noise carrying speech signals. The scheme would permit locating the microphones in close proximity by virtue of using MCRANC which has the capability of removing the crosstalk effect. MCRANC would also permit canceling out n...
